I get it! I love taking other people pictures and quick to take a good ole cellphone selfie but getting "put together" and stepping in front of the big camera isn't my favorite thing to do. So why do I take professional pictures? First, professionally I need to have high quality headshots/branding shots. You never know when you need to present yourself, business or product in the best light. Secondly, the memories! Everyone needs memories that last forever. Let me get personal with you guys for a minute. My grandma died October 8 2017 and she wasn't a big picture taker. I remember us sitting down looking through old images trying to find the right one to put on her obituary. The only clear high quality picture she had was a glamour shot from over two decades ago. While it was gorgeous, I thought about how great it would have been to capture her beauty also in her more elder years. Capturing her bra strap length sliver tresses and perfect skin...man! I thought about my baby cousins and the next generations of kids to come. I want them to be able to see their great great grandmother in all stages of life but unfortunately as a family we have a handful of polaroids and the 1 professional picture...sigh. Memories fade but pictures last forever.

We make it our job at KSC to make everyone as comfortable as possible in front of the camera. We hear it all the time, "I'm not photogenic!" We believe everyone is photogenic it might just take some work. It never fails; I say something corny, tell a funny joke or give a compliment and just like that the clients face lights up and that is the money shot! You don't have to be intimated by having a photoshoot.

A great introduction to the camera can be in a family portraits or a family event. Taking pictures with your love ones can help you be more relaxed and act natural. Many families color coordinate their outfits so everyone is somewhat similar and all you have to do is add your own personality. I have found over the years the best pictures are those that aren't staged per se but when you just let people walk, talk and interact with things naturally. The key to having a great shoot is being comfortable. Comfortable with your photographer, comfortable with yourself and the environment. In an upcoming blog post we will dive deeper into those tips!
